LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Beaches- There are literally dozens of sun kissed beaches on the North Shore. There are beaches for snorkeling. There are beaches for surfing and windsurfing and beaches suited for your “little people”. Most of the beaches are normally thinly populated for ultimate relaxation. Beautiful Hanalei Bay beach is the longest continuous stretch of beach on Kauai and the subject of songs and images.
Activities—The North Shore boasts 45 holes of the most challenging and beautiful golf you’ll enjoy in your life. There are nearby tennis courts available as well as bicycle rentals. Hiking the wilderness that is the Na Pali coast is to be literally stunned by the inspiring views and vistas. It is one mile to the first beach at Hanakapiai. If the Na Pali hike does not suit, then take a Na Pali Cruise for the adventure of a lifetime. During the calmer summer months, many people prefer the Na Pali rafting tours. A helicopter ride to see the whole island and the inside of the verdant volcanoes is a must. Whether you are scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, enjoying the ancient Hawaiian terraces of Limahuli Tropical Botanical Garden or just bird- watching, there are countless ways to enjoy the scenic beauty of Kauai’s North Shore.
Dining - There’s a fine Mediterranean restaurant right on property. Down in Hanalei town, there are several fun restaurants ranging in style from “funky Hanalei” to fine dining. The Princeville Hotel is a short ¼ mile walk for some very elegant cuisine.
Shopping- Hanalei is the best place to shop, though there are a few nice shops in the Princeville Hotel. Don’t miss the Yellowfish Trading Company in the Hanalei Trader building for good Hawaiiana. The Hanalei Dolphin Fish market is the place to go for croutons and fresh fish to cook; Papayas Health food store has wonderful fresh produce and organics. And, watch for the Farmers’ Market, ½ mile West of Hanalei, usually on Tuesdays at 2PM. The Princeville Shopping Center has some shops as well, but the Foodland is the closet place for groceries (get a Makai card for discounts).
Family Fun—There are nearby stables that conduct horse- back riding day trips through streams and meadows into the mountains. Or, try a soak in Queen Emma’s baths just below Pali Ke Kua. Take a ride up the Hanalei River in a kayak or watch the albatross and shearwaters soar at the Kilauea Lighthouse. Use the Hanalei beach near the pier for tots and young swimmers (has restrooms and bar-barbeque grills). Another good place for the “little ones” are the tide pools at Hideaways Beach (bottom of the Pali Ke Kua beach path). And there is always the good old-fashioned Hawaiian luau for some family fun.
